  1. Finally, I can get some quality sleep outdoors. This sleep system is light, roomy and comfortable. Thanks to the integraded sleeping pad sleeve and spaciousness of the bag, you can rotate within the bag from side to side and never roll off your sleeping pad or get all tangled up in the bag. Others have said the temp rating is off for this bag. I have not used it down to the 30 degree range yet. However, with use of a liner and a comfy base layer, I think that I will be quite comfortable. I tend to sleep warm anyway and wearing some clothing inside this roomy bag will not be a problem. If in the future I need a warmer bag … I will absolutely buy another Big Agnes. This bag packs down relatively small with the supplied stuff bag, but I’ll probably buy a smaller stuff bag or a compression sack to make it even smaller. I’m not a big guy (5-7 165), but I can’t sleep at all in bags that try to shed weight by designing the bag as narrow as a tube sock. This bag is spacious, light, well built and surprisingly affordable for a down bag. I’m very satisfied!

  2. I wasn’t sure I’d like the Big Agnes system, as it has NO insulation in the ‘back’ of the bag, relying on the sleeping pad, but after trying it, I love it.

I’ve been packing since 1969, and the Big Agnes system, is without a doubt the most comfortable I’ve ever tried, AND the lightest. But it’s not only more comfortable than a minimalist system, it’s more comfortable than ANY other system I’ve experienced.

I use the Big Agness 20 x 2.5 x 72 inch insulated inflatable air mattress (24oz), which slips into the back of the sleeping bag. Together they weigh 4.2 pounds. And it’s impossible to slip off the pad, the system doesn’t ‘travel’ into your neighbor on uneven ground, and there’s plenty of room to go fetal inside the extra wide bag.

The only drawback is it’s a bit cold at the lower extremes of the bag’s 30 degree rating system, which easily happens at higher altitudes, so it’s really a Summer bag. If you expect freezing, either get the 15 degree Big Agness Lost Ranger, a poly bag liner, or do what I did: when it froze at high altitudes, I just slept in my clothes.

It’s a minimalist system with the comfort of a feather bed.
