Big Agnes Lost Ranger Sleeping Bag

Product Description
Rated to 15 degrees Fahrenheit, the Big Agnes Lost Ranger Sleeping Bag packs to two-thirds the size of comparable down bags. Down is the lightest, most packable, and most efficient insulation available. Big Agnes makes sleeping bags without insulation on their bottoms because down compressed by your weight loses virtually all of its insulating value. Instead, Big Agnes puts a sleeve in the bag floor into which you slide your sleeping mat. This system offers several ... More >>

  1. I just got this bag to complete my Big Agnes sleeping system. It is a 650 fill goose down bag with a fill weight of 17 ounces and bag weight of 3lb 2oz for the Long size. (Reg. size 16 oz. and a measly 2lb 12oz) The bag is very well built, lightweight, and compressible, and comes with a cotton storage sack and a stuff sack. The first thing I noticed when I took it out of it’s package was how well the down lofted up and was not clumpy.

Once inside the bag, the large collar seal and draft tube keep you warm. There is also a pillow pocket that can be stuffed with a fleece or your camp pillow, and finally there a loops to hold your sleeping bag liner. This bag works best with any of the BIg Agnes 20″ rectangular insulated pads. The integrated pad sleeve means that you will never roll off of the pad. Big Agnes sleeping bags are not insulated on the bottom of the bag, only the upper two thirds of the bag are. This reduces the bags weight substantially and also makes sense, because any compressible insulation will not work as well while it is compressed with your body weight. Therefore, you must rely on the pad for your insulation, which also makes sense!

I have a B.A. Nugget 45 degree bag, which is a fully waterproof and breathable summer bag, or as Big Agnes calls it an overbag. I can stuff this sleeping bag inside, and most likely be warm and dry to 0 degrees. The weights combined for these bags, and a Big Agnes Insulated Air Core pad is right around 7 lbs, and the compressed size is smaller then many 0 degree bags with their pad.

I received the bag and there were no loose down in the bag, nor did I find the foot box to be too small, as some other reviewers have found. Overall, Big Agnes makes high quality sleeping bags that are lightweight, roomy, durable, and competitively priced.
